3. Governance – The Framework

Good intentions are not enough.

If AI is to serve people rather than control them, we need governance: the rules, accountability and safeguards that ensure technology and professionals remain accountable to the individual.

Governance answers questions such as:

• Who makes the final decision?
• Who is accountable when something goes wrong?
• How can decisions be challenged or appealed?
• What limits should exist on delegation to AI?

Without governance, sovereignty is difficult to protect.

4. Stewardship – The Practice

Finally comes stewardship.

Stewardship is how professionals, organisations and AI systems exercise the responsibilities entrusted to them.

A steward does not take control.

A steward helps people remain in control.

For AI, stewardship means supporting human judgement rather than replacing it.
