The Academy Community Is Now Live on WhatsApp

Most people do not need a financial adviser beside them all the time.

They need the right tools, somewhere trustworthy to ask questions, and access to an independent second brain when life becomes complex, stressful or uncertain.

That is the thinking behind the new Academy of Life Planning Community on WhatsApp, now open to all Academy Members.

The 90% Principle

The Academy works from a simple idea:

Around 90% of people, around 90% of the time, can manage their own finances with the right support.

The principle is inspired by Sir Muir Gray’s work in health through the NHS Living Longer Better programme.

Most people manage most of their health themselves. They do not live permanently under the supervision of a doctor. They use knowledge, habits, tools, communities and professional expertise when it is genuinely needed.

The Academy applies the same logic to wealth.

Most people do not need to delegate their entire financial life to an adviser. They need support that helps them understand, choose and act for themselves.

That is the difference between Assets Under Management and Agency Under Development.

One model is designed to keep your money inside a professional system.

The other is designed to help you become increasingly capable of managing your own life.

Why We Have Created the Academy Community

Academy OS already gives members free access to practical tools, structured thinking and personalised guidance.

But tools alone are not always enough.

People also need conversation.

They need somewhere to ask a short question before it becomes a large problem.

They need to hear how other people are thinking about similar decisions.

They need updates, events, live discussions and reminders that they are not navigating alone.

The Academy Community adds that human support layer.

It is not a place where experts take over.

It is a place where people become better equipped to continue for themselves.

What Members Can Access

The new WhatsApp Community brings Academy members together through a series of topic-based groups.

These include:

Academy Announcements

Important Academy updates, new tools, events, calls, webinars and member information.

Ask the Academy

A place to ask short questions about money, planning and using Academy OS.

The aim is to provide general information, education, signposting and a useful next step.

Pensions and Retirement

Discussion about retirement choices, pensions, changing work patterns, income, spending and life beyond employment.

Money and Life Decisions

A broader space for decisions involving work, family, housing, health, relationships, purpose and what “enough” means.

Because money decisions are rarely only about money.

Financial Safety and Scams

Support for recognising financial harm, misleading propositions, scams and exploitation, alongside relevant Get SAFE resources.

Academy Community Café

The informal social space for introductions, conversation, progress, encouragement and connection.

Inner Circle Practitioners

A private peer group for planners in the Academy’s Inner Circle who are serious about building commercially viable, agency-led practices.

This group is reserved for practitioners actively turning Total Wealth Planning principles into working business models.

More Than a Chat Group

The Academy Community is designed to support:

  • topic-based discussion;
  • short-question support;
  • live voice and video calls;
  • member events and workshops;
  • important updates;
  • peer learning;
  • bottomless email Q&A support; and
  • access to independent one-to-one support when needed.

The aim is not to recreate permanent adviser dependency inside WhatsApp.

The aim is to create supported financial agency.

Knowing When a Short Answer Is Not Enough

Some questions can be answered safely with general information, a tool or a useful explanation.

Others depend on a person’s full circumstances.

A retirement decision, bereavement, divorce, redundancy, inheritance, scam, major purchase or difficult family situation may require more than a quick message.

That is where the Academy’s Independent Financial Lifeguard support becomes important.

Every Academy Member has access to reassurance, second opinions and human support when something does not feel right.

And when a decision requires deeper personal attention, members can arrange independent, impartial one-to-one support from a Total Wealth Planner.

The model is simple:

Manage independently when you can.
Ask the community when it helps.
Call on a second brain when it matters.

A Better Role for Professional Expertise

The traditional professional model often assumes that because people may need expert help occasionally, they should remain permanently dependent.

But episodic need does not justify continuous control.

You do not retain a doctor every day because you may become ill.

You do not retain a lawyer throughout your life because a legal problem may arise.

And you should not have to hand over the management of your financial life merely because some decisions will occasionally become difficult.

Good professional support should build capability for ordinary life and remain available for exceptional moments.

That principle applies not only to financial planning, but to professions globally.

The proper measure of professional success is not simply how many people remain under management.

It is how many people become more capable of proceeding without it.

Open to All Academy Members

The Academy Community is open to anyone with an active Academy Membership.

Members may be interested in the Academy personally, professionally or both.

Some will join because they want greater clarity and confidence in their own financial lives.

Others will join because they are interested in the future of financial planning.

Some will simply want to be part of a growing movement seeking a better relationship between people, money, technology and professional expertise.

There is no requirement to be a financial planner.

There is only a shared interest in restoring human agency.

The Academy Community is not about creating another place to consume financial content.

It is about creating somewhere people can think, ask, learn and act.

Because most people are capable of managing far more than the professional system has encouraged them to believe.

They may not need someone to take over.

They may simply need the right support.
