Introducing Get ICE: I Continue Earning
There is a familiar script for later life. Work hard, save enough, reach a certain age, and stop earning.
For many people, that script no longer fits. Some want to keep contributing. Some need more income than their savings will provide. Many feel both things at once. Yet the usual conversation starts with the size of their pension pot and treats everything they have learned, built and become as if it has already been spent.
That is a strange way to measure wealth.
A person in their sixties or seventies may have decades of expertise, trusted relationships, practical judgement and a perspective that cannot be downloaded. Their financial capital may be limited. Their human capital may be at its strongest.
Today, the Academy of Life Planning is launching Get ICE to help people put that capital to work on their own terms. Like the rest of Academy OS, it is free and open to everyone.
What is ICE?
ICE means I Continue Earning.
It is a different question from “When can I stop working?” It asks: What could I do with the experience I have accumulated, and what income would give me genuine choice?
The answer will be personal. It might involve consulting for a few days a month, mentoring, teaching, writing, a portfolio of small projects or building something entirely new. For some, the goal is financial security. For others, it is contribution, connection or the freedom to turn down work that no longer fits. Often, it is a combination.
Get ICE is designed especially for people aged 55 and over who have more to give, but who may not have the pension savings they once expected. There is no age limit or membership requirement to use it. It does not assume that everyone has the same health, energy, opportunities or desire to work. The point is to explore what is possible for you.
The goal is to earn by choice, not necessity.
From experience to a practical plan
Get ICE guides you through four stages of the Academy’s GAME Plan method:
- Goals: Identify your values, strengths and the kind of second chapter you actually want.
- Actions: Review your skills, track record and relationships; explore realistic ways to earn; and find where AI could help you use your expertise more effectively.
- Means: Look honestly at your income and spending, work out your personal ICE Number, and compare possible paths over the next ten years.
- Execution: Turn the plan into manageable actions, useful habits and support from other people.
Your ICE Number is the income level at which continued earning begins to feel like a choice. It is not a magic figure or a promise. It is a working target based on your own circumstances, which you can test and revise.
The process produces a plan you can save and use. It is meant to help you think, decide and act—not to make decisions for you.
Where AI fits
AI can help turn hard-won knowledge into a course, draft a proposal, reduce the administration of independent work, or help someone learn the tools needed for a new direction. That can make opportunities more accessible to a person working on their own.
But AI does not know what a meaningful life looks like for you. It cannot decide which work is worth your energy, which commitments fit your health or what “enough” means in your household. Those are human decisions.
Get ICE uses AI as a planning partner to extend your capability, while keeping your judgement in charge. It starts with what you already carry, then helps you find a practical next step.
A different measure of later-life wealth
Conventional retirement planning often asks whether your accumulated money will last. That is an important question. It is rarely the whole question.
Your ability to create value, adapt, teach and contribute also matters. So do your time, wellbeing, relationships and freedom to choose. A plan that counts only financial assets may miss some of your most useful resources.
Get ICE is not a pension calculator, a job board or personal financial advice. It is a way to bring your experience and your financial reality into the same conversation—and build a plan you can act on.
If the old script says your productive life ends at a particular age, here is a better question:
What becomes possible when your experience is treated as an asset, rather than a chapter that has closed?

Get ICE is an Academy of Life Planning tool. It supports reflection and planning; it does not provide regulated financial advice. Financial projections are illustrative and depend on the information and assumptions you provide.
