🌀 The Clock Keeps Ticking: Breaking the Cycle of Regulatory Amnesia

“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything.”
The Kybalion, The Law of Rhythm

We’ve been here before.
Lehman. Brexit. COVID. Car finance. SJP. QROPS.

Each crisis sparks an outcry.
Each outcry invites regulation.
Each regulation eventually becomes red tape.
And then… deregulation begins again.

JB Beckett, in his recent IFA Magazine blog, reminded us that financial regulation doesn’t operate in a vacuum. It ticks to a rhythm — driven by time, politics, and memory. His insight is clear: We regulate after catastrophe, forget why we did, and then unpick the protections until another catastrophe reminds us again.

This is not just a pattern.
It’s a cycle.
And it’s one we can — and must — break.

⏳ The Rhythm of Forgetting

As JB writes, “tick follows tock.”
From Lehman Brothers in 2008 to the Mansion House deregulation agenda of today, we’ve gone full circle. Once again, we hear the cries of “cut the red tape” and “unleash growth.” Once again, we’re told the problem is bureaucracy, not abuse.

But let’s call this what it is:
Regulatory amnesia.

The Gen Y and Z workforce, now leading product innovation, client advice, and risk management, were still in education or early jobs when the 2008 crisis hit. Many never saw the system collapse in real time. They didn’t watch pensions vanish, homes foreclose, or savings wiped out by “too big to fail.”

And that’s not their fault.
It’s ours — for not preserving memory across generations.

🧠 Ancient Wisdom, Modern Foresight

This cycle is not new. The ancients knew it well.

The Kybalion calls it the Law of Rhythm:

“The pendulum-swing manifests in everything. The measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left.”

Economists call it boom and bust.
Politicians call it reform and repeal.
Planners call it risk-on and risk-off.
We call it Piscean planning — extraction masked as empowerment.

What matters most now is not how to stop the pendulum — but how to rise above it.

🔁 Is the Cycle Inevitable? Yes… and No.

The rhythm is inevitable. But our response to it is not.

The Kybalion teaches that while the pendulum swings, the wise rise above — by neutralising its effect. It’s not about stopping the swing, but about transcending its unconscious pull.

“The Master by rising mentally to the plane above the one upon which he acts, escapes the swing of the pendulum.”

This is where The GAME Plan and our vision of conscious, Aquarian-era planning come in.

🧠 What Must We Do?

We must become conscious cycle breakers. Here’s how:

  1. Remember What Was Forgotten
Teach the why behind the post-GFC regulations. Not just the rules, but the cost of forgetting. Embed that wisdom in onboarding, education, and AI-powered planning tools like Planning My Life.
  2. Build New Rhythms
Instead of swinging between extremes, design living systems that respond fluidly — not reactively. Use AI, values-based planning, and peer-based accountability as modern-day “governors” of risk.
  3. Expose the Clockmakers
As JB warns, these cycles are not just natural — they are manipulated. Wall Street and the City profit from forgetting. That’s why Aquarian financial planning must be conscious, collaborative, and decentralised.
  4. Reframe Risk
Reclaim risk from the language of fear and greed. Teach that aligned risk (as in our Human Capital strategies) can liberate, while outsourced risk (as in toxic Centralised Investment Propositions) enslaves.

🔧 What Can We Build?

  • Regenerative Frameworks: Not reactive compliance, but regenerative governance. Tools like the Goliathon, Notion timelines, and the Citizen Investigator’s Playbook are Aquarian responses to Piscean rot.
  • Financial Rites of Passage: Turn economic cycles into initiatory moments — with programmes that help each generation integrate the lessons of the past (e.g., GAME Plan Mastery, M-POWER, Transformation Track).
  • Intergenerational Memory Systems: Use AI and Notion to build institutional memory — timelines of past harms, protections lost, red flags ignored — so the pendulum doesn’t always catch us off guard.

💠 The Aquarian Response: Conscious Cycle Breaking

As we shift into the Age of Aquarius, we don’t need more rules — we need wisdom frameworks that transcend the cycle itself.

Here’s how:

1. Build Intergenerational Memory

Use platforms like Notion to document regulatory harms, abuses, and lessons. Create digital playbooks that teach why protections existed — so we don’t unpick the safety net and call it progress.

2. Reframe Risk

Risk isn’t bad — but it must be aligned, not outsourced. Holistic Wealth Planning places risk where it belongs: in the hands of the empowered.

3. Transform Regulation into Regeneration

Rather than reactive compliance, build regenerative systems rooted in purpose, not just rules. Empower planners and clients to self-govern with integrity and intelligence — using AI, peer mentorship, and conscious structures.

4. Name the Manipulators

Cycles aren’t just natural — they’re manipulated. As JB says, “Capital fled regulation.” And now, capital is writing the rules. Aquarian planning shines a light on this — restoring the balance between people and power.

🔧 So What Must We Do?

We must build systems that remember when people forget.
We must train the next generation not just in finance — but in consciousness.
We must build a rhythm not of boom and bust, but of restoration and empowerment.

All are built on this insight:

We cannot regulate our way to justice. We must evolve beyond the need to.

⏱️ The Time is Now

The clock is ticking, again. Deregulation is rising. Protections are falling. The voices of short-term profit are growing louder.

But in the quiet, a new rhythm can be heard.
The rhythm of empowerment. Of sovereignty. Of a system designed not to forget — but to remember, restore, and rise.
