“You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.”
— Marcus Aurelius
Recently, I wrote to His Majesty The King—not out of defiance, but from a place of deep loyalty and concern. My letter laid bare the suffering of thousands of His Majesty’s subjects who have been devastated by financial misconduct, their cries unanswered by Crown Officers who serve at His Majesty’s pleasure.
The reply I received from Buckingham Palace was, in many ways, exactly what protocol would predict: polite, careful, and non-committal. It acknowledged my letter, recognised the strength of my concern, and informed me that “this is not a matter on which it is possible to comment.” The response was considered, diplomatic—and silent where justice cried out to be heard.
At first glance, such silence might feel like a door closed. But to the Stoic, it is not defeat. It is clarity.
🔹 We Are Not Here to Be Obeyed—We Are Here to Be Just
The Stoics teach us to focus only on what we can control: our intentions, our actions, our integrity. I cannot compel the Palace to intervene. I cannot command comment from behind the velvet curtain. But I can act. I can speak. I can illuminate injustice. And I can do so without resentment, without despair, and without expectation of praise or permission.
The palace may not move. But we do.
🔹 The Crown’s Silence Is Not the End—It Is a Mirror
That letter now sits among my records not as a disappointment, but as a reminder. In the face of institutional silence, we are called not to lament—but to lead. If power turns its head, let conscience turn ours toward action.
“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”
We may not receive a royal decree, but we are not powerless. Our strength lies in the quiet resolve to keep showing up, keep speaking truth, and keep building the structures of justice ourselves—from the ground up.
🔹 Let the System Observe in Silence—While We Act with Purpose
To those who’ve suffered in silence: your stories are not lost. To those who protect the status quo: your silence will not shield you from the tides of history. And to those still doubting the value of a single voice—I say this:
One voice, grounded in principle and undeterred by silence, can become a movement.
And so we continue—not with bitterness, but with resolve.
Because justice doesn’t wear a crown.
It walks among the people.
And it begins again with every brave step we take.
If you’ve ever felt unheard by those in power, know this: your voice still matters. Speak. Write. Act. And let purpose—not permission—be your guide.
About Get SAFE
Get SAFE (Support After Financial Exploitation) was born from a simple truth: too many victims of financial abuse are left to suffer in silence.
We exist for people like Ian—for the ones who did everything right, only to be failed by the systems they trusted. We know that behind every vanished pension, every ignored complaint, and every stonewalled letter is a person—frightened, exhausted, and too often alone.
Get SAFE offers more than sympathy. We offer structure, support, and solidarity.
We provide a voice where there’s been silence, and clarity where there’s been confusion.
We stand beside those who have been exploited, not just to help them recover—but to help them reclaim their story and rebuild their future.
Because financial justice is not a luxury.
It’s a human right.
If you or someone you know has been affected by financial exploitation, we are here.
You are not alone.
