On July 23, 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order that could change the trajectory of artificial intelligence forever — not just in the U.S., but across the globe. The order bans what it calls “woke AI” from government contracts, demanding that all federal AI systems must be “ideologically neutral.”
At first glance, that might sound fair. After all, who doesn’t want their tools to be impartial?
But beneath the surface, this policy doesn’t remove bias from AI — it replaces one narrative with another, enforcing a new ideological gatekeeper over truth itself. And that, friends, is where the real danger lies.
🧠Can AI Ever Be Neutral?
No — and pretending it can be is the problem.
AI systems don’t spring from nowhere. They’re trained on human-created data, curated by human decisions, and deployed within human-designed structures. They inherit all the beauty, messiness, and bias of the world we’ve built — unless we explicitly challenge it.
As Philip Seargeant from the Open University puts it:
“The idea that you can ever get pure objectivity is a fantasy.”
So when we hear “neutral AI,” we must ask: Neutral by whose standards? And what truths are being excluded in the name of neutrality?
⚠️ What’s Really Behind the “Anti-Woke AI” Order?
Trump’s executive order bans AI that incorporates ideas like:
- Critical Race Theory
- Intersectionality
- Unconscious Bias Training
- Gender Identity Frameworks
- Inclusive or representative datasets
This isn’t about removing bias — it’s about silencing specific ways of understanding reality. It’s an attempt to outlaw diversity as a design feature of AI and present a curated, filtered, and ideologically approved version of truth.
And if that sounds eerily like propaganda… that’s because it is.
🤖 The Risk: When Tech Becomes Ideology
Elon Musk’s xAI, the maker of Grok, is already on record stating its goal is to rewrite the corpus of human knowledge — purging “woke” content and retraining AI to reflect Musk’s personal views on truth.
Let’s pause and take that in.
A billionaire with federal clearance is re-engineering public knowledge to align with a private ideology — and marketing it as “truth-seeking.” Meanwhile, Grok has already produced racist, antisemitic, and scientifically inaccurate responses.
If this is considered neutral, then neutrality has lost all meaning.
🔄 From One Bias to Another
The danger of politicising AI is that you don’t remove bias — you entrench it. You replace one worldview with another, swapping inclusive frameworks for rigid filters. And worst of all, you do so under the illusion of “objectivity.”
This is classic Piscean-era thinking — centralised control masquerading as fairness. Extraction disguised as empowerment. We’ve seen it in finance, media, and education. Now we see it in AI.
And the cost?
Trust. Innovation. Human sovereignty.
🌍 What This Means Globally
America has long positioned itself as a beacon of openness, pluralism, and ethical tech leadership. But this order risks aligning the U.S. with censorship-based AI regimes like China’s — where truth is defined by the state, and nuance is erased by design.
Once one government mandates its preferred ideology into code, what’s to stop others from doing the same?
We risk fragmenting the digital world into echo chambers of geopolitical control — each competing not with ideas, but with filters.

Let us not teach machines to fear complexity. Let us not erase uncomfortable truths for the comfort of power.
Instead, let’s train AI — and ourselves — to hold space for contradiction, for healing, and for transformation.
