By Steve Conley, Founder, Academy of Life Planning
Let me take you back in time—to a moment when the world was very different. A time when people lived in rhythm with nature, with the moon, the seasons, and the cycles of life. A time when knowledge was holistic, sacred, and shared.
In those days, life had visible purpose. People understood their place in the universe. The wisdom of the ancients was not just stored in texts but encoded in the way communities lived, worked, and worshipped. Life was seen not as a ladder to climb, but as a circle to complete.
But then came a fracture in consciousness.
The Roman Empire rose, and with it came the systematisation of control—territorial, political, and spiritual. The early Christian Church, once a movement of liberation, was appropriated by the state and weaponised as a tool of mental dominance. The sacred texts were rewritten. The inner knowing of individuals was replaced by external authority. The power to think, to connect, to believe—was outsourced.
The age of whole-brain being—where intellect and intuition danced together—was slowly dismantled. Over the next 2,000 years, we were conditioned to use only half of our potential. The mind was exalted, but only as a servant of the state. The heart and spirit were silenced.
And so, gradually, we forgot.
We forgot that life is cyclical, not linear.
We forgot how to listen to our soul’s seasons.
We forgot our power.
Instead, we allowed others to tell us what success looks like.
What to want.
What to fear.
Who we are.
The result is a rigged system—a machine designed not to empower, but to extract.
But here’s the truth: we can remember.
And in remembering, we begin to heal.
We heal by reconnecting with ancient wisdom—the knowledge of cyclic living and whole-brain being. We align our minds, bodies, hearts, and spirits in harmony. We turn inward, not as an escape, but as a revolutionary act of self-leadership.
We reclaim our power by setting our own goals, not living by the imposed goals of others.
We begin to ask:
- Who am I?
- Why am I here?
- What is my unique path of purpose?
And in doing so, we become ungovernable—because a person who knows their purpose cannot be controlled.
At the Academy of Life Planning, we offer a map for this journey: The GAME Plan.
A model grounded in ancient wisdom, and built for modern life.
It stands for:
- Goals aligned with your spirit
- Actions led by intention
- Means that reflect your values
- Execution in harmony with nature’s rhythm
The GAME Plan is a remedy for the rigged system.
It is not about fighting the old—it is about remembering the original.
Reclaiming what was always yours: your agency, your truth, your significance.
Because once you see the system for what it is, the only way forward is to transcend it.
And in doing so, you don’t just heal yourself—you help heal the world.
Addendum: Modern Tools, Ancient Wisdom
In conversation with Johan, a fellow practitioner and CeFT-trained transitionist, we explored how contemporary coaching frameworks like the Certified Financial Transitionist® (CeFT) methodology naturally align with the Academy of Life Planning’s GAME Plan and Contemplative Consultant model.
This alignment is no accident. It reflects a deeper truth: both systems draw upon the ancient natural law of cyclic living—a way of being that honours the full spectrum of human experience across mind, body, heart, and spirit.
These cycles are not inventions; they are observations of how life truly unfolds—from creation to manifestation, dissolution to renewal. When we work with them, we restore what the rigged system has fragmented: our inner wisdom, agency, and purpose.
As Johan rightly observed, the tools may differ—but the philosophical foundations are shared. Whether through structured decision-free zones or contemplative pathways rooted in mythology, both approaches help clients navigate transition with depth, clarity, and integrity.
Ultimately, they remind us that the way forward is not to build new systems of control—but to remember the original design of human flourishing.

“The sacred texts were rewritten” – Really?

Hi Chris,
A fair question—and yes, really.
The phrase refers to a well-documented historical process: after the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as the state religion under Emperor Constantine in the 4th century CE, sacred texts were systematically compiled, edited, translated, and canonised to align with the emerging imperial agenda.
Many early Christian writings—such as the Gnostic Gospels, texts of the Essenes, and other spiritual works—were excluded from the official canon. These often emphasised personal spiritual experience and inner divinity rather than obedience to external authority. What we now call the Bible was finalised through political and theological councils (e.g., Nicaea and later synods), where certain texts were preserved, others modified, and many suppressed altogether.
The result? A version of spirituality that shifted power from the individual to the institution. A model where divine connection required mediation by the Church—approved, of course, by the state.
So when I say “the sacred texts were rewritten,” I’m referring not just to literal edits and omissions, but to a broader reframing of narrative—from one of inner awakening to one of external control.
Happy to continue the conversation—this is a rich area of inquiry.
Warm regards,
Steve
