Restoring Justice, Rebuilding Lives: A New Era for Victims of Financial Crime

Fraud is no longer a peripheral issue. It is now the single largest category of crime in the UK, accounting for nearly 40% of all reported offences and costing society an estimated £6.8 billion per year. While the scale of the crisis grows, prosecutions remain rare, and victims are too often left to suffer alone—without support, recourse, or recovery.

At the Justice & Recovery Hub, we’re changing that.

According to the Sunday Times, emerging initiatives like the City of London Police’s partnership with law firm Gowling WLG mark a turning point. When criminal prosecution isn’t viable, civil litigation can offer a powerful alternative route to justice. But victims need more than legal action—they need emotional support, life planning, community, and advocacy. That’s where we come in.

Four Ways We Help Victims of Corporate Financial Crime

At the Justice & Recovery Hub, we offer a holistic recovery path—always free to those in need, funded through cross-subsidy, sponsorship, and reinvested profits from the Academy of Life Planning.

1. Life Planning for Recovery & Resilience

We help victims conceive a future beyond the trauma with structured life planning. Our “Rebuild & Thrive” masterclasses restore emotional balance, renew purpose, and provide practical steps to regain financial well-being—before depression takes root. As psychologist Rollo May once said, “Depression is the inability to construct a future.” We help people construct one.

2. Support for Civil Recovery & Asset Tracing

We empower citizen investigators to prepare well-documented, compelling cases for potential litigation. In the words of legal professionals: investigators investigate; lawyers litigate. We help bridge that gap, leveraging AI-assisted tools to organise evidence, trace assets, and support recovery—ensuring victims are no longer overlooked because their case “doesn’t meet the criminal threshold.”

3. Advocacy & Systemic Reform

We don’t just support victims—we campaign to stop victimisation. Through public awareness campaigns, political engagement, and media collaboration, we press for reforms to financial regulation, law enforcement capacity, and the civil recovery system. Fraud victims deserve visibility, protection, and a voice in shaping policy.

4. Community-Led Peer Support

Healing happens in community. Our peer support groups offer connection, mentorship, and solidarity. Survivors meet others who truly understand what they’re going through—because they’ve lived it. Together, they move from isolation to empowerment.

A Public-Private Turning Point—But More Is Needed

Recent collaborations between civil lawyers and police forces are encouraging. They show a willingness to innovate when traditional criminal justice approaches fall short. Civil recovery—faster, more flexible, and focused on restitution—must become a bigger part of the national response.

But civil litigation is only effective when victims are prepared—when evidence is well-documented, assets are traced, and legal options are clearly understood. That’s why our hub exists: to fill the gaps, walk with victims through every step, and provide the tools they need to recover both money and meaning.
