Academy of Life Planning (AoLP) Compliance Charter

Introduction

At the Academy of Life Planning (AoLP), we deliver financial planning services that are client-centred, transparent, and ethically grounded.
While we operate outside the FCA regulatory perimeter — because we do not provide regulated financial advice — we are not unregulated.
We are proudly governed by UK consumer protection law and overseen by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), ensuring the highest standards of fairness, diligence, and transparency.

Our Regulatory Framework

  • Not FCA-Regulated:
Our services are educational and non-intermediating. We do not recommend, arrange, or manage regulated financial products.
  • CMA-Regulated and Consumer Law-Compliant:
    We are regulated through:
    • The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
    • The Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014.
    • The Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Act 2024.

These regulations place strong legal obligations on us to ensure that all practices are transparent, honest, fair, and respect consumer rights.

How We Protect Consumers

Generic, Educational Advice Only:
We provide general financial education and life-centred planning, not personal recommendations or product sales.

Full Transparency:
All service terms, costs, and limitations are clearly explained before engagement. Clients are always informed that they retain full responsibility for their financial decisions.

Separation from Regulated Activity:
We fully comply with FCA PERG 8.26 guidelines. Our services are independent of any regulated advice or sales processes and avoid any “packaging” that could bring activities inside the regulated perimeter.

No Steering or Product Influence:
We never promote, endorse, or recommend specific financial products, providers, or investments.

Chinese Walls for Dual Firms:
Members who also operate FCA-regulated firms must maintain documented separation (“two hats”) between regulated and unregulated activities, ensuring clients are never confused about the nature of the service being provided.

Strict Adherence to Ethical Standards:
We uphold:

  • Professional diligence.
  • Non-misleading marketing and communications.
  • Clear disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Full respect for clients’ autonomy and decision-making freedom.

Robust Consumer Rights and Redress Mechanisms:
Clients have clear rights to information, cancellation, feedback, and complaint escalation — internally and externally — in line with consumer protection law.

Our Commitment

At the Academy of Life Planning:

🔹 We believe in planning the person before planning the money.
🔹 We provide ethical, independent, and transformative financial life planning.
🔹 We commit to operating with integrity, professionalism, and accountability — setting new standards for transparency in financial services.
🔹 We continuously review and update our practices to meet the highest standards of compliance, consumer protection, and client care.

Operating outside the FCA perimeter does not mean operating without regulation.
It means operating with greater clarity, higher ethical purpose, and a deeper commitment to empowering lives — not just managing money.
