Why this free life recovery masterclass is exactly what victims need—and what you can do to help
By Steve Conley, Founder – Academy of Life Planning
Have You Been Left Picking Up the Pieces?
If you’ve ever been the victim of a financial scam, bad advice, or institutional failure—you’ll know the feeling. The money’s gone. But worse, so is the trust. Maybe even your hope.
You’re not alone. And you’re not to blame.
The real crime isn’t just the fraud—it’s how the system abandons victims once it’s happened. At the Transparency Task Force, we’ve heard these stories over and over again. Good people misled, manipulated, and left behind. No accountability. No recovery plan. Just silence.
That’s why we launched Rebuild & Thrive.
This isn’t just another support group. It’s a transformational life recovery programme—built by people who’ve lived it, for people who’ve lost everything and are ready to fight back. And the best part? It’s free, open, and ready for you.
What Is Rebuild & Thrive?
Rebuild & Thrive: The Life Recovery Masterclass is a six-week online course, hosted on Zoom, designed to help victims of financial crime reclaim their lives—emotionally, spiritually, and financially.
This isn’t therapy. It’s a masterclass in personal empowerment, grounded in a proven framework called the GAME Plan—a structured process based on Goals, Actions, Means, and Execution. Developed over 13 years, the GAME Plan helps you get clear on who you are, what matters, and how to build a life of stability and meaning, even after loss.
Each session is 90 minutes long, hosted by expert facilitators in a warm, safe group setting. And it’s not just talk—we equip you with practical tools, build a plan together, and give you the confidence to run your own financial life from here on out.
Why This Matters Now
Let’s be real: the system isn’t designed for people like us. It’s built to protect the powerful—not the victims.
We’ve seen countless cases where regulated financial advisers have ruined lives with bad advice or outright fraud. And when the money disappears, victims are often left isolated, anxious, and ashamed.
But the trauma goes deeper than that.
Financial crime doesn’t just take your money—it takes your peace of mind, your health, your relationships, your purpose. And unless you address all those areas, no amount of compensation or justice will truly fix it.
That’s why Rebuild & Thrive works across every area of your life:
- 💰 Financial Recovery: Build a practical plan for long-term income and security
- 💡 Emotional Healing: Process the grief, anger, and anxiety
- 🧠 Mental Resilience: Regain clarity and confidence
- ❤️ Spiritual Purpose: Reignite your reason for being
From Victim to Victor: A New Path
When we kicked off this initiative, we started with a powerful session hosted by Andy Agathangelou, founder of the Transparency Task Force. He shared his personal experience going through the GAME Plan and said something that stuck with us all:
“It was like being at a Springsteen concert and wanting to bring all my friends along. I didn’t want to keep it to myself. I wanted others to experience this joy, too.”
That joy came not from ignoring the pain—but by transforming it into purpose.
Many who attended the session had harrowing stories of fraud, betrayal, and institutional neglect. But they also had something else: a spark. A hunger to not only recover—but to rebuild something better.
Real Lives. Real Impact.
Take Ian Davis. A volunteer at the Transparency Task Force. He lost his life savings to a regulated firm—London Capital & Finance. Instead of fading quietly, he fought. He became a citizen investigator, building a database of over 70,000 documents linking over 350 companies in a web of fraud.
But despite handing this evidence to every major authority—from the FCA to Action Fraud—he was ignored.
Ian’s tragic death in 2023 was a wake-up call. His story was raised in Parliament. But we need more than tributes. We need action.
Rebuild & Thrive honours Ian’s legacy by turning pain into power—for everyone still fighting.

✅ Lasting Empowerment
This is about you. Your power. Your potential. We teach you how to become your own financial adviser—so no one can ever take advantage of you again.
It’s Not Just About You. It’s About All of Us.
One of the most beautiful parts of this work? Seeing victims become guides.
We’ve learned that trauma creates strength. Your lived experience—no matter how painful—can be a source of value for others. That’s why Rebuild & Thrive also invites participants to pay it forward.
If you’re willing, we’ll help you turn your story into a superpower—to speak, coach, mentor, or simply walk alongside others. This isn’t just healing—it’s legacy-building.
Can the System Change?
Not without pressure. That’s why we’re also tabling the idea of an open letter campaign.
Should we choose to do this, we would be calling for the FCA to allocate just 1% of its £750m annual revenue—around £7.5m—to establish a dedicated Life Recovery Fund. This fund would offer:
- Direct support for victims (emotional and financial)
- Prevention and education to stop others falling victim
- Recognition of citizen investigators like Ian Davis
The crooks have the money. Victims have none. This small reallocation would be a lifeline—and we’d be asking you to co-sign our open letter to make it happen.

💬 A Message from Steve Conley
I deeply appreciate you sharing your experiences and reflections during our session. I understand how overwhelming and consuming the pursuit of asset recovery and accountability can be—especially when justice feels unattainable.
While the struggle for justice remains critical, it is equally vital that you reclaim your right to a meaningful life beyond this battle.
Your significance is not solely defined by achieving accountability.
Your courage, resilience, and commitment already speak volumes about your character and strength.
“Perhaps the greatest act of defiance against injustice is choosing to find purpose, joy, and fulfillment despite it.”
Life’s value often emerges not from our circumstances, but from how we respond to them.
Your journey, insights, and experiences have immense potential to empower and uplift others facing similar challenges.
🙏 Gratitude and Inspiration
My thanks go to Brian Hall for sharing two powerful quotes that guided him in his own journey:
Viktor Frankl – Auschwitz survivor and existential psychologist:
“The last of the human freedoms: to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. And there were always choices to make. Every day, every hour, offered the opportunity to make a decision, a decision which determined whether you would or would not submit to those powers which threatened to rob you of your very self, your inner freedom; which determined whether or not you become the plaything to circumstance, renouncing freedom and dignity…”
Antonio Gramsci – Imprisoned by Mussolini:
“You must realize that I am far from feeling beaten… it seems to me that… a man ought to be deeply convinced that the source of his own moral force is in himself — his very energy and will, the iron coherence of ends and means — that he never falls into those vulgar, banal moods, pessimism and optimism. My own state of mind synthesises these two feelings and transcends them: my mind is pessimistic, but my will is optimistic. Whatever the situation, I imagine the worst that could happen in order to summon up all my reserves and willpower to overcome every obstacle.”
🌱 Closing Words
Let us support each other in finding meaning and significance right now—even amidst uncertainty.
You deserve to truly live, starting today.
🕊️ A Word from Andy Agathangelou
“As mentioned earlier, we would like to place ‘on the record’ our appreciation to Steve for gifting his time, effort, insights and experience to those who sign up for the programme that was launched at the meeting.
We hope this will be a ‘helpful arm around’ people that need and deserve support.
We can’t help but wonder: if something like this new and pioneering programme had been available earlier, maybe—just maybe—Ian Davis R.I.P. would still be an active member of the TTF community today.”
🎓 Please click here to book yourself onto the free course that Steve is kindly providing to all TTF members.
📌 With Steve’s agreement, we dedicate this programme to the memory of Ian Davis.
